Have you seen the episode of Charmed when Phoebe goes to Alcatraz for a day? If you are in San Francisco have yourself a good time and go there.
You do have to book your tickets upfront but it’s worth it.
A boat will take you to the island and upon arrival you can see the whole island with a audio guided tour in lot’s of languages.
If you take the guided tour you will really get a 1950s feeling with stories, among other, from the inmates.
